Today, the children have been working collaboratively to research animals that live in our Blue Planet. This work is in preparation for our new topic, which we will be starting after the holidays. The children found out some really interesting facts and sketched some fabulous pictures – they will look brilliant on our new display.

Christmas sewing

This morning, the children have been putting their sewing skills to the test to create a Christmas tree decoration. They worked really hard and also helped one another when some people became stuck. They look really effective and will look great at home on the children’s Christmas trees.

Lats week, the children brought in their topic project homework for our recent topic: Myths and Legends. There were some superb pieces of work!

The Wolf’s Story

This week, the children have been reading well-known fairy tales with a twist. They have enjoyed reading about what really happened to the Three Little Pigs and the Wolf’s side of the story in Little Red Riding Hood. Using the Wolf’s Story, the children have worked in pairs to retell the story using Strip Design on the iPads. As they have been writing, they have been working together trying to include as many literacy features as possible, as well as making their stories engaging to read.

Working scientifically

In science, the children have been investigating how the size of someone’s hand changes the number of sweets they are able to successfully pick up. The children chose their own way of calculating the surface area of their hand and then tried to pick up as many sweets as possible. They worked well collaboratively¬† and different groups came to different conclusions.

 

Children in Need

Mythical puppets

Last week, the children designed their own mythical puppets and, this week, they have started to make them. There are many different designs from a cyclops to a minotaur to a famous God. From the pictures, they are starting to take shape and I’m sure they’ll be totally transformed when they paint them later.

Shared writing

This week, the children have been working collaboratively to produce a piece of shared writing in literacy. They have been using their strengths to help others and acting upon feedback to include different parts from the list of steps to success.

Life cycles of plants

Today, the children have been looking at the life cycle of a flowering plant and how insects are vitally important in helping them grow. They then looked at how plants produce new shoots when they reproduce asexually (potatoes). The children have all planted their own bulbs to see if they can successfully get them to grow. They will observe the bulbs are they develop and note any changes – fingers crossed we have some flowers!

 

 

 

Magnets

The children have been working collaboratively to enquire into the strength of different magnets. They used a range of magnets to test the strength of attracting a paper clip by changing the thickness of paper.
